The Pantheon's free entries are few and clear. They are set by the manager, the Direzione Musei nazionali della città di Roma. The Italian Ministry of Culture's press release on the increase to €7 confirmed them: «Existing reductions and free entries will remain unchanged».

Then there is Mass. Entry there is free for those attending the service, but it is not a way to visit the monument.

The short answer

Under 18s, residents of the Comune di Roma, and licensed tour guides enter for free every day. On the first Sunday of the month, entry is free for everyone, with tickets collected on site and no online booking. At Mass on Saturday at 17:00 and Sunday at 10:30, entry is free for worship only, not for sightseeing.

When is the Pantheon free?

The first Sunday of every month, for everyone. Under 18s, residents of the Comune di Roma, and licensed tour guides enter for free every day.

How does the first Sunday of the month work at the Pantheon?

Entry is free, but «no ticket will be bookable online»: time slots are collected on site.

Time slots remain even on free days, and are assigned until sold out. On Sundays, there is also the 10:30 Mass, and ticket sales stop one hour before each service: from 9:30, therefore, sales stop for Mass.

Collection takes place at the Pantheon ticket office, which closes at 18:00. No official source says how many slots there are or what time they end: the operator only writes «until sold out».

What are the next free Sundays at the Pantheon?

From November 2026 to June 2027: November 1, December 6, January 3, February 7, March 7, April 4, May 2, and June 6.

They are the first Sundays of the month, calculated on the calendar. 1 November 2026 is also All Saints' Day, a holiday, and the manager warns that opening hours may change for religious celebrations. Before you leave, check the Pantheon's official page. The dates one by one are in free Sundays at the Pantheon.

Is entry to the Pantheon free during Mass?

Yes, to attend: during services «entry will be free and free of charge for the exercise of worship». Tourist visits are not allowed during that time.

The Pantheon is the Basilica of Santa Maria ad Martyres. The basilica repeats: access to liturgical services is always free, and no sightseeing is allowed during services. The times:

  • Saturday and the eve of holidays: Mass at 17:00.
  • Sunday and holidays: Mass at 10:30.

Ticket sales stop one hour before each service, so those who want to visit must also account for that hour. Inside, the basilica’s reception offers audio guides and guided tours for a suggested donation.

Go to Mass if you want Mass. To calmly see the dome and tombs, you need a ticket or a free day.

Do Rome residents enter the Pantheon for free?

Yes. The operator lists among the free entries «residents in the territory of the Comune di Roma», and the April 2026 notice left them unchanged.

The free entry applies to the Comune di Roma, not the province or region. It applies every opening day, not just Sundays. Licensed tour guides enter for free in the same way.

For those who do not fall into these categories, the only free option remains the first Sunday of the month. On other days, the ticket costs €7, or €2 for EU citizens aged 18 to 25.

Do children pay to enter the Pantheon?

No: under 18, the official entry is free. From 18 to 25, EU citizens pay €2.

On GetYourGuide listings, the price for younger participants depends on the option, and you see it when you choose the participants. Two listings require a document even for children: the guided tour with ticket and also the small group.

What can you see of the Pantheon without entering?

From the square, you see the portico with its 16 granite columns and Agrippa’s inscription on the facade. From outside, you only see part of the dome.

The columns come from Egypt and are 11.9 metres high. Above them you can read M AGRIPPA L F COS TERTIVM FECIT: the story of that signature is in the history of the Pantheon.

Some people also come here in the evening, on foot. The sunset walk covers Navona, the Pantheon, Trevi, and Piazza di Spagna, all from the outside: the listing excludes the interior visit.

What time does the Pantheon open on Sundays?

Like other days: from 9:00 to 19:00, with the ticket office open until 18:00 and the last entry at 18:30.

The difference is the 10:30 Mass. Closed on December 25th and January 1st, «except for extraordinary openings». On holidays, check the operator’s page before leaving.
